Semiotics Principles

The Starbucks logo is one of the most recognized logos in the world. Its use of a mermaid or siren at its center makes it very distinctive and interesting to look at, but its simple use of only three colors: black, green, and white balance the logo. Also, besides minor changes in censoring the mermaid graphic, the logo has not changed much in 40 years. Additionally, the mermaid is modeled off of a 15th century engraving, contributing to its timelessness.
